The handshake between U.S. President Donald Trump and France's First Lady Brigitte Macron at the G7 summit lasted 13 seconds.
In the footage circulating in the media from the summit, the American leader is seen greeting Macron, spending about 3 seconds on this, and then approaching his wife, exchanging welcoming kisses on the cheeks and holding the hand of the First Lady of France for more than 10 seconds, at times trying to pull her closer to him.
Journalist Aaron Rupar wrote: "Trump shakes hands with Brigitte Macron, mimicking a tug of war."
"Hmm, those gestures are a bit inappropriate," wrote one user online.
"Why doesn’t he let go of her hand when she wants to free herself?" questioned another participant in the discussion.
Another user also noted the behavior of the First Lady: "She looked ready to let go of his hand after about five seconds."
"Goodness! Why is Trump holding hands with the First Lady of France Brigitte Macron in front of her husband? Did he momentarily think she was Melania?" wrote another commentator.
In turn, one psychologist explained that with such a long handshake, Trump is simultaneously solving two tasks — asserting his dominance and flirting.
