Before storing a winter jacket for the next season, many try to wash it. However, washing a down jacket is not the simplest procedure. After washing, the filling may clump, and restoring the item to its original shape can be difficult.
If the jacket itself looks clean, but the collar or cuffs are dirty, washing may not be necessary. A simple life hack can help deal with such stains.
A Solution That Almost Everyone Has
You can remove local stains using regular micellar water. This product is designed for makeup removal, so it gently cleans the surface without damaging the fabric.
Micellar water is especially effective against traces of foundation, powder, or lipstick on the collar of the down jacket.
How to Clean the Collar and Sleeves
To remove stains, simply apply a few drops of micellar water to a cotton pad. Then gently wipe the stained areas with light movements.
You can use the same method to clean the edges of the sleeves and other areas that tend to get dirty while wearing.
What to Do After Cleaning
After treatment, it is advisable to wipe the fabric with a damp cloth to remove any residue. Then, the jacket should be thoroughly dried at room temperature.
If the stains were minor, after this procedure, the down jacket can be safely stored until the next cold season.
