With the onset of cold weather, many habitually reach for soluble powders for colds and flu. A hot drink does indeed help to feel relief for a time: temperature decreases, chills go away, and congestion reduces. However, such remedies often do not treat the underlying cause of the illness but merely temporarily mask the symptoms, forcing the body to continue fighting the infection using its own resources.
Experts note that regular use of such medications can create an illusion of recovery. Meanwhile, the immune system remains overloaded, and recovery is prolonged. This is why more and more people are turning to gentler and more natural ways to support the body during cold season.
As an alternative, a simple homemade drink based on natural ingredients known for their warming and strengthening properties is suggested.
Homemade 'Theraflu'
To prepare, you will need: — 2 lemons
— 2 tablespoons of natural liquid honey
— 30–40 grams of fresh ginger root
Lemons are thoroughly washed, and if desired, the zest is removed and chopped together with the pulp. The ginger is peeled, grated on a fine grater, and added to the lemon mixture. Then, honey is mixed in, the mixture is transferred to a clean, sealable container, and stored in the refrigerator.
During cold season, 2–3 teaspoons of the preparation are diluted in a cup of warm tea, with a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees, to preserve the properties of the honey. This drink is consumed after meals as a preventive measure or as a supplement to the main treatment.
The homemade mixture with lemon, ginger, and honey is not only beneficial but also pleasant to taste, making it enjoyable for both adults and children. Such natural recipes do not replace medical assistance but can provide gentle support to the body during the cold season.
