The Kremlin does not rule out a complete blocking of the messenger Telegram after the September elections to the State Duma, sources close to the administration of the President of the Russian Federation told "Verstka".
“This is a test, f#ck it a little later,” said an unnamed source close to the Kremlin, explaining the reasons for the new restrictions on Telegram, as quoted by "Meduza".
According to sources, the decision to fully block the messenger will be made by the authorities based on the sentiments of Russians after the elections, as well as their attitude towards the course of the war.
“Telegram should not be a destabilizing platform. The blocking of a popular platform for adults should be gradual. It should now become clear that it is time to look for alternatives. It is well known to everyone,” said another source close to the domestic political bloc of the Presidential Administration, hinting at the national messenger Max.
Earlier, "Meduza" reported that the political bloc of the Presidential Administration would like to maintain the infrastructure of pro-government channels in Telegram until the State Duma elections in 2026 — as establishing a similar system in other messengers is likely not feasible for the authorities.
