PCWorld: PCs are being sold without RAM due to shortages.

Computer manufacturers have started selling their systems without RAM modules. This was noted by PCWorld.

Journalists observed that one of the first companies to sell computers without memory was the American firm Paradox Custom. The company explained that they made this decision to keep their equipment affordable, as the cost of some DDR5 RAM kits has increased by 100 or even 400 percent due to shortages. Later, another American company, Maingear, began removing memory modules from some of its personal computers (PCs).

The authors explained that the consumer and computer enthusiast community is entering the era of BYOR (Bring Your Own RAM). They lamented that this trend undermines the very idea of buying ready-made computers, which cannot be used immediately after purchase — users will still need to find RAM elsewhere.

The article states that the BYOR approach implies that the user already has memory modules. "For anyone looking to upgrade their system from DDR4, finding affordable DDR5 RAM will be extremely difficult," the journalists concluded.
