The Windows 11 update led to a black screen due to an unknown error.
The Windows 11 update led to freezes and a black screen. This was noted by the publication Windows Latest.
Journalists from the media reported that the problem is related to the recent update KB5074109, released by Microsoft as part of the "Patch Tuesday" in early January. It turned out that an unknown error causes a black screen on some personal computers.
The article states that the problem is not widespread; however, it is somehow related to graphics cards. "I can confirm that issues have been observed on a small number of computers with Nvidia and AMD graphics cards," noted the publication's author Mayank Parmar. According to the specialist, the black screen may appear for a few seconds — the image goes blank, and then everything returns to normal. The error may recur periodically.
"In most cases, you will encounter this issue no more than once, but if you frequently see a black screen before the desktop appears, you might try uninstalling the Windows 11 update KB5074109," the journalists advised. You can also try updating the graphics card drivers.
At the end of January, journalists from the publication Neowin found out that the popular Microsoft Outlook program broke after the Windows update. The problem was discovered in versions 25H2 and 24H2.
