Video games can enhance brain activity.
Video games can enhance brain activity, including memory and concentration, believes clinical psychologist Elizaveta Kulikova.
“Currently, the perception of video games has shifted positively, particularly with the discovery of the property of computer games in enhancing brain activity. Computer games can be beneficial in developing perception and fixation of different objects, forming visual-spatial representations, improving attention, reaction speed, and memory. Gamification and special effects develop multitasking skills and generally have a neuroplastic effect,” said Kulikova.
However, not all games fulfill these tasks; strategy games serve as active trainers of cognitive skills due to the necessity of planning actions and predicting events. She noted that, according to some data, shooters and action games positively affect attention, memory, and concentration due to their special effects and multi-component visuals.
At the same time, she reminded that prolonged computer use leads to deterioration of vision, scoliosis, and other consequences.
