The need for maximum RAM for a gaming PC has been called a myth.
The need for components with maximum specifications for a gaming computer has been deemed controversial. This is stated in a piece by Pocket-lint.
The journalists debunked four main myths related to building a personal computer (PC) for gaming. Firstly, they noted that it is not necessary to follow the rule "the more RAM, the better." They pointed out that 16 gigabytes of memory may be insufficient, but 32 gigabytes should be enough for most new games.
The authors also warned users against using utilities to overclock computer specifications: "Excessively exceeding the temperature limits of a computer can lead to the failure of some components." Additionally, the specialists refuted the claim that gamers should constantly strive for the latest generation graphics cards. According to them, even graphics cards from Nvidia's 40 series released three years ago are suitable for running modern games.
In conclusion, the journalists stated that there is no need to purchase increasingly popular monitors with a refresh rate of 144 hertz. "120 or even 60 hertz is quite sufficient for smooth operation, so noticing the difference is difficult, if not impossible," the authors summarized.
