Android 17 will feature an application display function on the lock screen. This was reported by the specialized publication Android Authority.
In the operating system (OS) code, experts discovered a new Min Mode. With this mode, the smartphone will be able to display not only the time or wallpaper on the Always-on Display (AOD) but also a full interface of certain applications.
The new option will work in ultra-low power mode. With it, a minimalist interface of Android applications will be shown on the locked display. For example, users will be able to use navigation or read messages in a messenger. At the same time, the device's display will be locked, and the device will not consume much power. Enthusiasts believe they have uncovered one of the first features of the upcoming Android 17.
"In this mode, applications can provide the OS with minimal AOD-compatible actions that will be displayed during device inactivity, ensuring a richer and more convenient interface without compromising battery life," the publication's authors described the feature. One of the first applications to support Min Mode will be the mapping service Google Maps.
Earlier, Google conducted a study and found that Android users are better protected from fraud than iOS users.
