After the match between Oleksandr Usyk and Rico Verhoeven, which ended with the victory of the Ukrainian boxer, there are active rumors about a possible rematch. However, some experts do not consider such a fight a good idea and believe that Usyk should choose another opponent, writes SkySports.
Hamza Shiraz, who won the WBO title in the super middleweight division on the undercard of the Usyk – Verhoeven fight, believes that a rematch "would not benefit Rico in any way, except for adding to his bank account."
"Usyk is the king of winning twice," he emphasizes.
Trainer Gary Logan also believes that a rematch is unnecessary for either opponent.
Logan noted that Usyk already knows everything about Verhoeven, so even if a rematch takes place, the Ukrainian will win easily this time.
In his opinion, if Usyk wants to retain his WBC title, along with the IBF and WBA titles, his next fight should be against Agit Kabayel, the interim WBC heavyweight champion.
"Usyk has nothing left to prove. He has proven everything. He has achieved it all. His legacy was not tarnished by the performance against Verhoeven," the trainer emphasized.
For his part, Verhoeven, if he wants to establish himself as a heavyweight, should fight someone from the leaders of the division.
Recall that after his loss to Usyk in the ring, Verhoeven announced that his team had filed an official appeal regarding the fight's results. The Dutchman noted that the official protest was submitted on the way to the airport. Verhoeven emphasized that "rules only matter when they are applied at the most important moment."
