The Popular Berry Proves to Be a Protector of Blood Vessels Against Inflammation

Nutrients: raspberries can protect blood vessels and reduce inflammation.

Scientists have established that the substances found in raspberries can protect blood vessels and reduce inflammation, one of the key factors in the development of atherosclerosis. Raspberry extract and its components, anthocyanins and polyphenols, suppress the activity of genes associated with inflammation, including IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, and NF-κB. The results of the study were published in the journal Nutrients.

Experiments showed that the bioactive compounds in raspberries act at the cellular level, preventing inflammatory reactions and improving metabolic processes in blood vessels. According to the authors, this effect may play an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Additionally, raspberry extract prevents damage to the endothelium—the inner lining of blood vessels, which is compromised in cardiovascular diseases. In cell experiments, a decrease in the expression of molecules VCAM-1, ICAM-1, and SELE, which are involved in inflammatory processes and vessel constriction, was observed.

Researchers believe that regular consumption of raspberries or polyphenol-rich extracts may slow the development of early stages of atherosclerosis and other chronic diseases associated with inflammation.
