Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an agreement for the supply of European Eurofighter Typhoon jets. The production of Eurofighter jets will take place at British facilities in Edinburgh, Warton, Samlesbury, and Bristol, providing jobs for 20,000 people, which will positively impact the UK economy.

The agreement was signed during Starmer's first visit to Ankara. "We see this as a new symbol of the strategic relationship between two close allies," Erdogan stated after the signing ceremony at the presidential complex.

The Turkish leader expressed confidence that the agreement would pave the way for new joint defense projects.

Starmer, in turn, called the event a "historic moment," noting that the deal is valued at nearly $11 billion. "This is indeed a significant deal because the order value is $10.7 billion. This means jobs for the next 10 years," he said.

According to him, the agreement will strengthen NATO's security, deepen bilateral defense cooperation, and support economic growth in both Turkey and the UK.

UK Defense Secretary John Healey, who accompanied Starmer, emphasized that Turkey is "an important NATO ally and guardian of the Black Sea."

"By equipping it with the latest Typhoon fighters, we will enhance NATO's deterrence and make us all safer," he added. The British government described the agreement as "the largest export contract for combat aircraft in a generation." The production of 20 Eurofighter jets will take place at facilities in Edinburgh, Warton, Samlesbury, and Bristol, providing jobs for 20,000 people.

Eurofighter Typhoon jets are in service in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Austria, and are also used in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar.

It is worth noting that last week Starmer stated that European allies had agreed on a "clear plan for the remainder of the year" to support Ukraine, including London's decision to accelerate the missile production program.

Additionally, British troops have found a way for Latvia to counter Russia, Bloomberg reported.
