Reuters: Amazon plans to lay off up to 30,000 employees, who will be replaced by AI.
Online retailer Amazon plans to lay off up to 30,000 employees. The largest workforce reduction in three years was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
It is noted that this layoff will be the largest since 2022, when 27,000 employees were let go. In total, Amazon employs 1.55 million people. A company spokesperson declined to comment.
"This latest move indicates that Amazon is likely recognizing sufficient productivity growth due to AI in corporate teams to afford a significant reduction in staff," commented analyst Sky Canaves.
