France will investigate the facts of Apple users being listened to through Siri.
France will conduct an investigation into the transfer of private user data by Apple. This was reported by Politico.
The article states that Apple is accused of transmitting recordings of users' voices from iPhones and other devices, captured by the Siri assistant. According to an informant within the company and the investigation, the IT giant sent confidential recordings to third-party contractors working for Apple for quality control.
Journalists noted that the story began back in 2019 when informant Thomas Le Boniek revealed that Apple shared user data with contractor Globe Technical Services in Ireland. Specialists from the third-party firm listened to the voices of iPhone owners to assess whether Siri responded correctly to their requests. At the same time, Apple did not inform users that a third-party company had access to their personal information.
Years later, the Paris prosecutor's office opened a criminal case. A representative of Le Boniek noted that the American IT giant would have to answer in court to "urgent questions." A representative of Apple responded that the corporation has never sold user data or used it for marketing purposes.
