Latvian athlete Viktor Reshko won a silver medal in the sport sambo discipline in the weight category over 98 kg.
The European Sambo Championship took place this weekend in Tbilisi, Georgia, as reported by bb.lv from the Latvian Sambo Federation.
In the first round, Viktor Reshko had a bye, in the quarterfinals he defeated Georgian representative Giorgi Kavatadze with a score of 3:1, and in the semifinals, he won by submission against Ukrainian athlete Oleksiy Moiseyev. In the final, the Latvian athlete lost in a very tense and evenly matched bout with a minimal score of 0:1.
For Viktor Reshko, this medal became his ninth medal at European Championships, further confirming his status as the most decorated sambist in the history of Latvia.

Meanwhile, Janis Zalcmanis competed in the combat sambo discipline in the weight category up to 88 kg. In his first match, he won against Turkish athlete Muzaffit Ayadyn with a score of 4:2, but in the quarterfinals, he lost to Romanian representative Georg Bodirla.
Latvia was also represented at the European Championship by Edgars Ralfs Jurgenbergs (98 kg), who lost to an athlete from Moldova, and Nikita Skorbenko (88 kg), who lost to a representative from Armenia.
The Latvian team at the competition is accompanied by coach Yuri Polyakov.
