The head coach of Portuguese Benfica, José Mourinho, will take over Madrid's Real immediately after the current playing year ends.

According to the Spanish radio station Cope, the parties will sign a contract soon, and the official announcement of the appointment will take place after the final round of the Spanish championship. For the transfer of the 63-year-old specialist, the Madrid club will pay Benfica a compensation of six million euros.

The Lisbon club is ready to let the Portuguese go after May 17, when the team will play its final match in the national championship. For Mourinho, this will be his second stint at Real, having previously managed the Madrid team from 2010 to 2013, during which time he won the championship, the Cup, and the Super Cup of the country.

José Mourinho remains one of the most decorated coaches in world football and the first coach to have won the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Conference League. He has been with Benfica since September 2025, and prior to that, he managed top clubs such as Chelsea, Inter, Manchester United, and Roma.
