The men's national football team of Latvia will play today in Riga the second of two playoff matches against Gibraltar for a place in the third strongest division of the UEFA Nations League — League C, reports LETA.
The match at the Skonto Stadium will start at 19:00, with a live broadcast on LTV7.
On Friday, Latvia won the away match with a score of 1:0.
The winner of the two-legged tie will play in League C of the UEFA Nations League in the fall, while the loser will compete in League D.
If successful in the playoffs, the Latvian national team will face Montenegro, Armenia, and Cyprus in the group stage of League C. In case of defeat, the Latvian team will end up in League D in a group with Andorra and the loser of the Malta and Luxembourg duel.
In the FIFA rankings, Latvia's national team is in 139th place, while Gibraltar is in 202nd position.
The head coach of the Latvian national team, Paolo Nicolato, has called up 27 players for the March training camp. After a two-year break, midfielder Eduards Emšis has returned to the list of candidates, and after a year of absence, forward Roberts Uldriķis has returned from long-term injuries.
Due to health issues within the Latvian national team, captain Kristers Tobers will not be able to help in the matches against Gibraltar, and for the same reason, forward Raimonds Kroļlis is also not participating in the camp. After an injury to Bruno Melņiks, Danila Patičuks, who has not previously played for the national team, has been called up.
The squad also included defender Dennis Cirkin, who plays in the English Premier League, but he will not be able to take the field.
