Latvian tennis player Alena Ostapenko, paired with Taiwan's Se Shu-wei, suffered defeat in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open doubles on Wednesday, reports LETA.
Third-seeded Ostapenko and Se lost in the fight for a spot in the semifinals to Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and Brazilian Luisa Stefani (5th seed) with a score of 1–6, 6–7 (5:7).
For reaching the quarterfinals, Ostapenko earned 430 WTA ranking points in doubles.
As previously reported, in singles, Latvia's top tennis player Ostapenko (ranked 24th in the world by WTA) was eliminated in the second round.
Ostapenko participated in the Australian Open for the 11th time. Her best result in singles is reaching the quarterfinals in 2023. Last year, she was eliminated in the first round of the singles competition but reached the finals in doubles for the second consecutive year.
In last year's doubles final, Ostapenko and Se lost to Czech player Kateřina Siniaková and American Taylor Townsend with a score of 2–6, 7–6 (7:4), 3–6. These opponents, seeded first this year as well, lost in the quarterfinals.
