The Latvian youth hockey team secured a place in the quarterfinals of the junior world championship.
In a Group B match, Latvian hockey players defeated their peers from Denmark with a score of 6:3 (1:0, 3:2, 2:1).
For the Latvian national team, goals were scored by Krishjanis Sarts, Alberts Shmits, Markus Sieradzki, Anton Matievski, Bruno Osmanis (recognized as the best player of the match), and Kristers Ansons. Goalkeeper Nils Roberts Maurinsh saved nine out of 12 shots, while Latvian hockey players made 42 shots on the opponent's goal.
After the first four teams in Group B played three matches each, Canada has eight points, Finland has seven points, the Czech Republic has five, Latvia has four, and Denmark remains without points after four matches and will fight with Germany to maintain its place in the top division.
In their first match, Latvian hockey players lost to Canada in overtime with a score of 1:2, and in the second match, they capitulated to Finland with a score of 0:8. Meanwhile, the Danes lost to the Finns 2:6, succumbed to the Czech Republic 2:7, and suffered a crushing defeat from the Canadian team — 1:9.
Latvian hockey players will meet the Czech Republic in their last group stage match on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sweden, the USA, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Germany are in another group.
The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, while the teams that finish in fifth place will play a match to retain their position in the top division.
