Liverpool submitted a request to the English refereeing body (PGMOL) for clarification regarding the cancellation of Virgil van Dijk's goal in the 11th round match of the English Premier League against Manchester City (0:3), reports ESPN.
In the 38th minute of the match, van Dijk headed the ball into the net of Manchester City from a corner kick, equalizing the score (1:1). However, referee Chris Kavanagh, with the help of VAR, disallowed the goal, believing that defender Andrew Robertson, who was in an offside position, interfered with the goalkeeper's movements.
Liverpool believes that none of the criteria of the offside rule necessary for disallowing the goal were met.
After 11 rounds of the English championship, Liverpool has earned 18 points and is in eighth place in the standings.
