Norwegian husband of Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva, eight-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjørndalen stated that he considers the punishment of French biathlete Julia Simon, who has encountered legal issues, too lenient.
At the end of October, the Albertville court sentenced Simon to three months in prison suspended and a fine of 15,000 euros for credit card theft and fraud. The biathlete used a card that did not belong to her for purchases in online stores. The disciplinary committee of the French Ski Federation (FFS) suspended the multiple world champion for one month.
— When I first heard about this case, it seemed completely incomprehensible to me. Now she has been found guilty on five counts, which is even more incomprehensible. It is surprising that the sentence turned out to be so lenient, — Bjørndalen said, as quoted by TV2.
The new season of the Biathlon World Cup starts at the end of November in Östersund. Simon is a silver medalist in the Olympic mixed relay, a 10-time world champion, and the holder of the Big Crystal Globe of the World Cup.
