24-time Grand Slam champion, fifth-ranked Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has become the oldest player ever to win an ATP tournament title, Reuters reports.
Djokovic is currently 38 years and 5 months old. In the decisive match in Athens, he defeated 23-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the world’s ninth-ranked player, with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 7:5.
Djokovic broke the record of Frenchman Gael Monfils, who won the title in Auckland earlier this year at the age of 38 years and 4 months.
In head-to-head matches, Djokovic leads Musetti 9:1. The Serbian won his 101st ATP title in his career. In this regard, he is only behind Swiss Roger Federer (103) and American Jimmy Connors (109).
