Latvia's top player Alena Ostapenko moved up one position in the updated Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings to 23rd place, while Daria Semenistaya set a new personal record, rising to 87th place, reports LETA.
Ostapenko did not participate in tournaments last week, while Semenistaya competed in the WTA 125 tournament in Rovereto, where she reached the quarterfinals.
It was previously reported that last week Semenistaya entered the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time, taking 92nd place.
Among other Latvian tennis players, Anastasija Sevastova maintained her 208th position, Kamilla Bartone moved up five places (555th), Adelina Lachinova dropped seven positions (631st), and Beatrice Zeltiņa moved up one position (691st). Diana Marcinkevica and Elza Tomase dropped four (798th) and nine (943rd) places respectively, Sabine Rutlauka maintained her 1235th position, while Margarita Ignatieva dropped 33 positions and is now in 1469th place.
There were no changes in the top five of the WTA rankings — Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka remains in the lead, followed by Polish Iga Swiatek and Americans Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, and Jessica Pegula. Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina and American Madison Keys moved up one position each, taking sixth and seventh places respectively, while Italian Jasmine Paolini dropped two positions and is now eighth, with Russian players Mira Andrejeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova rounding out the top ten.
In the WTA doubles rankings, Ostapenko moved up from seventh to sixth place, while Daria Semenistaya regained six positions and now occupies 157th place. At the same time, Kamilla Bartone dropped nine positions (452nd), Sevastova — six (497th), Marcinkevica — 79 (549th), and Elza Tomase maintained her 668th position. The rankings also include ten more Latvian tennis players, among whom Ignatieva (944th) and Lachinova (966th) are in the top 1000.
The leader of the doubles rankings remains Czech Katerina Siniakova, followed by American Taylor Townsend.
