Latvian tennis player Darya Semeništa suffered a defeat in the quarterfinals of the singles event at the "WTA 125" tournament in Rovereto (Italy) on Friday, reports LETA.
Semeništa, ranked 92nd in the WTA rankings and seeded first in the tournament, lost to Belgian Sofia Costoulas (WTA 166) with a score of 6:4, 3:6, 3:6.
By reaching the quarterfinals, Semeništa earned 27 WTA ranking points, allowing her to rise to 86th place in the online ranking. It is worth noting that this week the Latvian player entered the top 100 of the WTA rankings for the first time.
As previously reported, in the second round, Latvia's second-ranked player defeated Italian Noemi Basilieti (WTA 445) with a score of 7:6 (7:2), 6:2, and in the Round of 16, she beat German Noma Nohu-Akogu (WTA 335) — 6:4, 4:6, 6:1.
The tournament in Rovereto is being held on hard courts.
