During a property committee meeting of the Riga City Council, a dispute between deputies escalated into a physical conflict today.

During a committee meeting, the deputies discussed the issue of transferring the old water tower located at Gaujas Street 21 to the Chiukurkals Society for Development.

City council deputy Rudolf Bremanis ("Sovereign Power"/"Young Latvians") began questioning the representatives of the society about the work they had done and their plans regarding the water tower.

At some point, deputy Kaspars Spunde (National Alliance) could not hold back and charged at Bremanis, knocking over the tripod of his phone that was set up to record the events and uttering insults.

Bremanis proved to be wiser – he did not respond to Spunde, but instead grabbed his phone, recorded Spunde's aggressive actions, and provoked him with various shouts.

Meanwhile, Bremanis's faction member Vyacheslav Stepanenko, who is not a member of this committee and was sitting on the other side of the meeting table, approached Spunde, who retreated from him.

The physical conflict was limited to shoving, and the deputies did not resort to blows. Municipal police were called to stop the conflict.

As Spunde admitted during the debates after the vote, he is not proud of what happened and added that perhaps "the Latgalian blood played a role."
