Top state officials will commemorate the day of the defeat of Nazism and honor the memory of the victims of World War II today.
Prime Minister Evika Silina and Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mierina will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Riga Brothers' Cemetery at 10:30.
At 14:00, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Liene Gatere and Commander of the National Armed Forces Major General Kaspars Pudans will take part in a memorial event dedicated to the soldiers of World War II in Lestene, Tukums Municipality.
Before the memorial event, a concert by the mixed choir of the Tukums State Gymnasium named after Rainis will take place at 13:00 in the Lestene Church.
May 8 is observed as the day of the defeat of Nazism and in memory of the victims of World War II in most countries around the world. Western Europe regained independence and freedom on May 8, 1945.
