The situation around the Strait of Hormuz has sharply escalated again. After the US strikes on Iranian facilities, Tehran announced an attack on American ships, and Donald Trump reported the "destruction" of Iranian forces.

In response, the Iranians attacked US warships east of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claimed "significant damage" to American vessels, while the US Central Command denied this.
"US forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with strikes against Iranian forces as US Navy destroyers with guided missiles passed through the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman," the department reported.

"Three world-class American destroyers just passed through the Strait of Hormuz, very successfully, under fire.
