It is no coincidence that it is said that the main voter of the ruling "New Unity" is the official, and he is mainly found in the capital and its surroundings. In the Riga electoral district, 38 deputies will be elected in the 15th Saeima elections, which is two seats more than before, the Central Election Commission (CEC) determined on Thursday, the LETA agency was informed by the commission.
Currently, the Central Election Commission has approved the distribution of deputy seats in all five electoral districts: 26 deputies will be elected in Vidzeme, 12 in Latgale, 13 in Zemgale, and 11 deputies in Kurzeme.
Compared to the previous elections, the number of seats has only increased in Riga, while in Latgale and Kurzeme it has decreased by one seat each, and it has remained unchanged in Vidzeme and Zemgale.
According to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, as of May 2 of this year, there were 1,553,583 registered voters in Latvia, of which the largest number - 595,665 - is in the Riga electoral district.
The approved number of deputies also determines the maximum size of candidate lists: parties and their associations in each district can nominate five more candidates than the number of deputies to be elected in the respective district.
Elections to the Saeima will take place on October 3 of this year, and the submission of candidate lists will occur from June 20 to July 5.
