Before the elections to the Saeima, the number of attacks in Latvia's cyberspace has reached new records

The level of cyber threats in Latvia remains high, and the intensity of attacks continues to grow, while ahead of the elections to the Saeima there is a risk of the activation of disinformation and influence operations, stated Varis Teivans, Deputy Head of CERT.LV, in the program "900 seconds" on TV3.

He noted that the number of incidents has significantly increased in recent years. "If we compare the last two to three years, it has doubled quantitatively," he said TV3, adding that the threat level is still assessed as high.

At the same time, the "quality" of attacks has changed — fraudsters are increasingly using artificial intelligence tools to create quality texts in Latvian and even to provide real-time translation. "Fraud as a type of attack is undoubtedly among the leaders," emphasized a representative of CERT.LV.

As the elections to the Saeima approach, the risk of intensified campaigns to influence society and attempts to undermine trust in the electoral process increases. According to Teivans, both real sensitive societal topics and artificially created scandals may be used.

At the same time, he noted that there are currently no signs of direct threats to the security of electoral systems. In everyday life, residents should be wary of investment fraud. "A red flag is always a fast, disproportionately high profit and attempts to obtain your financial data," warned the CERT.LV expert.
