Will the ruling party be ready today to address the issue of providing the national airline with an urgent loan?
As previously reported, today, at the initiative of the Minister of Transport, Aitis Shvinkis ("Progressives"), a report on the current situation at airBaltic was added to the agenda of the Cabinet of Ministers meeting. The company, which is already experiencing serious financial difficulties, has also faced the consequences of the crisis in the Persian Gulf. Specifically, aviation fuel prices have sharply increased. In this regard, airBaltic has approached the government with a request for a short-term loan. The exact amount in question has not been disclosed. However, at this very moment, the government is discussing the situation at airBaltic in a closed session, away from prying eyes and ears. The heads of the airline have been invited to the meeting - Chairman of the Board Andrey Martynov, CEO Erno Hilden, and Board Member for Finance Vitolds Yakovlevs.
According to rumors, the government is not yet ready to address the issue of providing the loan, and ministers may return to this topic after the holidays.
