Member of the European Parliament Vilis Kristopans hopes that Europe will return to right-wing policies focused on economic development and support for the traditional family.
“Just think about it: during the last term of the European Parliament, that is, over the past 5 years, 13,000 regulatory acts — regulations and directives — were adopted. 13,000! Is this how we want to see the European Union?! Isn’t it time to return to the roots and remember why the EU was established and what goals the founding fathers of the 'coal and steel union' set for themselves?” says Member of the European Parliament Vilis Kristopans from the political group 'Patriots of Europe'.
– The founding fathers of the European Union, Schuman and Adenauer, envisioned the EU as a space of freedom — free movement of labor and capital, free development of entrepreneurship.
Unfortunately, today, due to the dominance of leftist forces in the EU, the European Union has turned into a bureaucratized structure that seeks to increasingly limit the sovereignty of EU member states, and moreover, Europeans are being imposed values that, for example, are completely alien to me — LGBT, multiple genders, rainbow flags, same-sex marriages…
This could ultimately ruin Europe; it is a path to nowhere. Distorted values strike not only at morality but also at the economy — we see that Europe is stagnating, and the EU has lost the remnants of any influence on geopolitics; we are no longer players on the world map.
– Mr. Kristopans, what needs to be done to change the situation?
– Firstly, I hope that gradually voters in EU countries will start to support right-wing forces that adhere to conservative values more. Only this can return the EU to the world map in terms of influence on geopolitical processes!
But most importantly — only a change of ideology can save the EU from destruction. A strict migration policy, the development of entrepreneurship, traditional values — this is what the ideology should be!
This is exactly what our political group 'Patriots of Europe' stands for. I am proud to have been among the founders of this group, and today we have a very united team of 84 like-minded deputies. We have already achieved a lot — in particular, we managed to suspend the destructive 'green course' at least in the automotive industry: the EU was forced to abandon the transition to only electric vehicles, and the production of cars with internal combustion engines will continue!
Moreover, thanks to our votes, we managed to slow down the process of the agreement between the EU and South American countries coming into force — now this document will be evaluated by the EU court. I was the only representative of Latvia who voted against this agreement and have already received gratitude from Latvian farmers.
The entry into force of this agreement would have led to agricultural products from South American countries flooding into EU countries, displacing local products, that is, products from the farms of EU countries! By the way, the recent protests by farmers in Brussels and Strasbourg were related to this agreement — farmers justifiably feared that this agreement would make their products uncompetitive.
I would like to remind you that I am the only representative of the Baltic states in the European Parliament who works on the Committee on Agriculture. And the fact that I was delegated to this committee as a representative of a small country indicates that my political group 'Patriots of Europe' understands the importance of my work in this committee of the European Parliament.
The reality is that the EU has 'lost its bearings' — European policy has become completely pacifist, the EU executive does not understand that the world has changed and one cannot just run around with rainbow flags shouting - 'we are for peace all over the world.' Our strategic partner - the United States - has repeatedly told us recently: we are interested in a strong European Union that is ready to develop economic and defense cooperation based on equality and mutual consideration of interests.
As for our native Latvia, until our ideology changes, it is unlikely that we can expect close relations with the USA! Yes, we will be diplomatically praised for allocating 5% of GDP for defense and even patted on the back, but no more than that! A change of development vector is needed, and in this sense, I hope for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
