The Union of Greens and Farmers disapproved of the position of the head of the defense ministry.
The Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF) wants to hear explanations from Defense Minister Andris Spruds ('Progressives') at the upcoming coalition council regarding his and his ministry's stance towards the USA.
The UGF wants to hear the minister's explanation of Latvia's position concerning U.S. President Donald Trump's call for allies to participate in the liberation of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked due to the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran.
"The USA is the largest strategic partner of our country and remains a guarantor of European security," noted the UGF, emphasizing that it is important for our country to formulate a clear opinion regarding the U.S. call.
The UGF urges not to forget that the USA is the main driving force of the NATO alliance. Despite European countries significantly increasing their defense budgets in recent years, the USA still provides critically important capabilities that Europe currently lacks.
