Despite the support of the President of Latvia, the IOC banned the helmet with deceased Ukrainians

The IOC upheld the ban on Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevich competing at the Olympics with a helmet featuring images of deceased Ukrainian athletes but allowed him to wear a black armband with those images.

This was reported by a representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Yesterday, Vladislav Geraskevich was prohibited from using a special helmet depicting deceased Ukrainian athletes at the 2026 Olympics. He wrote about this on his Instagram page.

"Despite precedents in modern times and in the past when the IOC allowed such tributes, this time special rules were set for Ukraine," Geraskevich wrote.

Geraskevich was supported by the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs. He published two photographs with the helmet.

He then reposted Geraskevich's response to his publication on his page on X: "Thank you to the people of Latvia for your support! I would also like to remind you that Ukrainian skeleton began in Latvia, thanks to the support of the Dukurs family. Thank you for everything!".
