Speaking about safety in connection with the recent tragedy in Torņakalns and the topic of energy, it is evident that gas stoves are mainly used in houses built during the Soviet era, as the electrical infrastructure in them corresponds to the standards of those years — the entire energy system is designed for the needs of that time, stated the Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis (SCP) in the TV24 program "Ziņu TOP," writes LA.LV.
The minister explained that electricity consumption in Soviet apartments was completely different: "Refrigerator, television, maybe a radio. And now we have air conditioners, dishwashers, and other devices."
"It is clear that now the question arises about the complete reconstruction of the electrical system of the entire building. This will not be possible in all buildings, as the networks will not withstand it. And then the main question arises — how and at what cost," noted Melnis.
The minister stated that this year the ministry will attempt to introduce a program to assist in connecting apartment buildings to their own energy communities: "It will be like with private houses, where we are already used to solar panels being installed on the roof."
It is planned that the foundation will be European funding, which can only be spent on 'green ideas.' The minister urged residents of apartment buildings to inquire about the new program.
