Next year, prices for fuel and tobacco products will rise, the Latvian Traders Association (LTA) reported to the LETA agency. In turn, the increase in fuel prices stimulates inflation and the rise in prices for other products and services.
As a result of the increase in the excise tax by the Latvian authorities, retail prices for the specified goods will rise starting January 1, 2026, with the changes reflecting a minimal increase: the price of a pack of 20 cigarettes will rise from €5.40 to €7.10, the price of a pack of ten cigars or cigarillos will increase by €0.50, and the price of 40 grams of smoking tobacco will rise by €0.90.
The price of heated tobacco in a 5.4-gram package will increase by €0.30, electronic smoking devices with two milliliters of e-liquid will rise by €0.20, and tobacco substitutes, such as a pack of nicotine pouches weighing 14 grams, will increase by €0.40.
In turn, the price of gasoline and diesel fuel will rise by three cents per liter, while the price of autogas will increase by seven cents per liter.
The indicated price changes represent a minimal increase. The actual price increase may be even higher.
LTA notes that the rise in fuel prices significantly affects the prices of food and other consumer goods: a 5% increase in fuel prices causes a 1% rise in consumer goods prices. LTA also reminds that the excise tax rates on alcoholic beverages will change starting March 1, 2026.
At the same time, LTA points out that in several European Union member states, taxes have not been increased, and in Poland, a presidential veto was applied.
LTA was founded in 1912 and currently unites more than 600 entrepreneurs engaged in trade, public catering, and service provision on a voluntary basis.
