The U.S. and its president Donald Trump openly and directly communicate their global interests and areas of activity, including regarding the war in Ukraine initiated by Russia, noted in an interview with Latvian Radio the director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre, Janis Sarts, LETA reports.
According to his observations, modern people expect genuine and direct communication, rather than the complex and convoluted style often characteristic of Europe, where it is generally difficult to understand where the beginning is and where the end is.
“This approach no longer works, which is why we increasingly hear and see people who speak very, very directly — this is unfamiliar to us,” said the director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre.
He acknowledged that overall, this style of communication is more honest, although there are situations where people consciously use it but actually mean something entirely different.
Commenting on the new U.S. national security strategy, which has been widely discussed in recent days, Sarts expressed the opinion that in this document, the United States was quite honest and direct, openly stating what their interests and areas of activity are not only in the world but also in relation to Europe. He emphasized that the U.S. still recognizes the importance of Europe but also pointed out certain ideological directions that they believe are completely erroneous in Europe.
In response to a question about how Trump's positioning and peace negotiations will affect the course of the war in Ukraine, the director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre expressed skepticism. He believes that the ongoing negotiations are more like “negotiations for the sake of negotiations.” This is a process that everyone is watching, but so far there are no objective grounds to hope that it will lead to peace, as the parties put forward mutually unacceptable demands, Sarts noted.
