Our responsibility is not to get stuck in the past, - Prime Minister

Our responsibility is not to get stuck in the past, but to look boldly and firmly into the future with Latvian self-awareness, so that our children can be proud of us, emphasized Prime Minister Evika Silina (“New Unity”) in an address on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, LETA reports.

“Today we can determine our own destiny, and for this we must be grateful to our ancestors — for the fact that we can speak the Latvian language, preserve our culture and traditions, and proudly and responsibly defend our state. The history of Latvia is a history of resilience and faith. We are a people who did not give up, who did not lose themselves during the years of occupation or the years of silence, but believed in our state,” said the Prime Minister.

She emphasized that now we have our own state — and this is both a blessing and a responsibility for everyone.

According to the head of government, the strength of Latvia lies in its people: in entrepreneurs who dream and move the country forward, in families — fathers and mothers who lead their children to school and inspire them to achieve great goals, in teachers who awaken curiosity in children, in the hands of doctors, in the courage of soldiers, and in the perseverance of farmers.

“We are a people who have never chosen the easy path — we built our state step by step. Our traditions, language, Latvian values — they are our backbone. After all, the state is each of us, how patriotically we live and how much responsibility we take for our Latvia as part of Europe, of the democratic world,” noted Silina.

In her address, the Prime Minister poses the question — do we truly take pride in who we are and who we have become, and are we capable today of seeing what will be important tomorrow.

“Our responsibility is not to remain in the past, but to look boldly and resolutely into the future with Latvian self-awareness, so that our children can be proud of us,” urged the head of government.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Latvia is a mature and viable state. “Our task is to keep pace with the times, to anticipate events, to be competitive and flexible, while not losing our roots,” stated Silina.

She wished everyone courage, compassion, and strength to strengthen Latvia every day.
