According to Swedish analysts, Russia spends almost $22 million per hour on military needs.
Russia's military spending has reached $190 billion - a record since the Soviet era, according to SIPRI. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, since 2024, total military expenditures have increased by 5.9%, and compared to the pre-war period, by 96%. The Soviet Union, according to SIPRI, spent $218-245 billion annually on defense from 1987 to 1990.
According to SIPRI's calculations, Russia spends almost $22 million per hour on military needs. For the first time in the country's modern history, 20% of all government expenditures have been allocated to the military, experts say.
In addition to this part of the budget, military spending is also included in other sections - in construction, education, and social policy. As a result, total military expenditures amount to nearly 16 trillion rubles, which is about 38% of the federal budget, according to SIPRI.
In terms of total military budget size, Russia ranks third in the world after the USA ($954 billion) and China ($336 billion), reports Deutsche Welle.
