The use of pyrotechnics will still not be allowed during the Ligo holiday in Riga, as evidenced by the draft of the new mandatory rules 'On the Limitation of the Time for the Use of Fireworks and Stage Pyrotechnics in Riga,' which has been amended, LETA reports.
Initially, it was planned that the new rules would prohibit the use of pyrotechnics outdoors during the summer period from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and at other times from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
It was also planned to establish that the restrictions would not apply to the use of fireworks at public events approved by the municipality, from 7:00 AM on Ligo to 11:00 PM on Jāņi, as well as on New Year's Eve from 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
However, after amendments were made, the exception regarding Ligo was removed from the draft mandatory rules. It is now proposed that the restrictions will only not apply at public events approved by the municipality and only on New Year's Eve from 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
The mandatory rules still need to be approved at a meeting of the Riga City Council.
As previously reported, the ban on the use of pyrotechnics was earlier included in the Public Order Rules. However, with the entry into force in 2024 of the Law on Administrative Penalties for Violations in the Field of Management, Public Order, and Use of the State Language, these rules lost their validity.
