The attempt to take a break... for a week has failed. The people's servants decided to stay in the Saeima until morning - until they pass the law on withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.
Opponents of Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention attempted to delay the process through lengthy debates on each amendment, hoping that supporters of the withdrawal would tire and ultimately agree to announce a break in the plenary session at 21:00, as usual, for a week. Around 21:15, this was called for by the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica from "New Unity." She calculated that, considering those wishing to debate, the session could drag on until 3 AM.
However, the majority of deputies rejected this proposal. "We will work until we finish considering this issue," suggested the leader of the United List, Edgars Tavars.
The session continues - the plenary meeting has already lasted more than 13 hours.
