Curbs will be lowered in more than 70 places in Riga at the request of residents, the Riga City Council reported.

During a public survey conducted in May, residents submitted proposals for lowering curbs at the most frequently used street crossing locations.

The municipality received proposals for more than 130 addresses. Of these, 72 locations have been included in the work list. Areas not owned by the municipality have been excluded, as well as those where reconstruction of the pavement is planned in the near future or where work is already included in other projects.

In standard cases, the curbs will be lowered in such a way that the width of the lowered section will be at least two meters. In certain places, the solution may differ depending on the width of the sidewalk and the configuration of the street.

To date, in April and May, curb lowering work has already been completed in more than 90 locations on Kipsalas, Rostokas, Tadaikyu, Maza Nometņu, Parslas, Atputas, Katlakalna, Smilgya, Biešu, Malu streets, and others.

On average, about 400 meters of sidewalk curbs are lowered each month. The work will continue throughout the construction season - until November.

In 2025, curbs were lowered on sections with a total length of more than 1520 meters. Work was carried out at more than 70 addresses.

The municipality urges residents to report dangerous areas for pedestrian movement and crossings in areas owned by the municipality via the Riga City Council's 24-hour information phone 1201 or by email [email protected].
