Deputies working in the budget and finance committee begin discussions on the country's main financial law.
So, if in recent weeks the servants of the people have been engaged in 'dances' around the Istanbul Convention, starting next week, the deputies will have a new reason for prolonged disputes - the budget and a number of other committees of the Saeima will begin discussions on the draft budget-2026 and a package of budget-related bills. Already on Monday, the budget committee will consider in the first reading amendments related to the pension reform based on years of service, and on Tuesday, the budget committee will start discussing the budget itself - the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, as well as the head of the fiscal discipline council, will come to the deputies.
As for the scandalous issue of the Istanbul Convention, this topic will be dedicated to two meetings of the foreign affairs committee. The deputies will discuss amendments submitted to the bill on Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. It is expected that the committee will support the bill, rejecting all amendments from opponents of Latvia's withdrawal from this convention. And already on Thursday, October 30, the Saeima will adopt the bill in its final reading.
