Residents of one of the houses in Vecmilgravis were awakened in the middle of the night by the noise of heavy machinery. After the emergency on the water supply was resolved, people discovered another problem — severely damaged road surface near the house.
A nighttime accident on the engineering networks in Vecmilgravis resulted not only in noisy work under the windows of residential buildings but also in a damaged sidewalk.
Residents of the house on Emmas Street report that they were awakened in the middle of the night by a sewage truck from the company "Rīgas ūdens," which was working near their home until late. However, what surprised people the most was what they saw in the morning.
"I woke up and saw that there was no asphalt anymore," said local resident Marika in an interview with the show Degpunktā (TV3).
According to neighbors, the heavy machinery severely damaged the surface that had served for decades. "The machine was very big. Probably very heavy. And it destroyed everything. The asphalt had been there for 40 years," added resident Vladislav.
"Rīgas ūdens" explains that the work was carried out due to an emergency situation. If the problem had not been addressed promptly, the consequences could have been much more serious — wastewater could have entered not only the basements but also the yard area.
"The work continued until two in the morning. We resolved the issue. If we hadn't done this, some residents might have slept better, but most would have faced, to put it mildly, a stinky nuisance. Moreover, this stinky nuisance could have ended up not only in the basements but also in the yard. It was an emergency situation, and we acted. Unfortunately, the pipes often do not consult us when they decide to break," noted "Rīgas ūdens" representative Sandris Vanzovich.
Company representatives admit that the road surface was damaged during the work but claim that there was no other way to reach the site of the accident. The company also points out that the asphalt in this area had long needed updating, so after the repairs, the area should look better than before.
When exactly the restoration work will begin is not yet reported. However, the company promises to fully restore the damaged area.
