From June 9 to 20, train passengers heading to Jelgava will need to check the schedule more carefully. Due to repair work on the railway, the departure and arrival times of several services will change multiple times.
In June, significant changes are planned for the train schedule on the Riga–Jelgava railway line. As reported by the company Vivi, the adjustments are related to repair work being carried out by Latvijas dzelzceļš.
The changes will affect not only the electric trains running between Riga and Jelgava but also the diesel trains traveling to Liepaja and back.
The first phase of changes will begin on June 9 and last until June 10. During these days, the departure and arrival times of certain diesel trains will be adjusted. For example, the train from Liepaja, departing at 4:57 AM, will arrive in Riga approximately ten minutes later than usual.
After June 11, passengers can expect several more waves of changes. New schedule adjustments are planned for June 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, 19, and 20. This means that for almost two weeks, the usual schedule may change several times.
Passengers who use early morning or late evening services should pay special attention.
On June 17, 18, and 19, the last evening train from Riga to Jelgava will be serviced by a diesel train instead of an electric train. Similarly, on June 18, 19, and 20, the first morning service from Jelgava will also be operated by a diesel train.
At the same time, travel times will increase.
The evening service will depart from Riga at the usual time of 11:35 PM but will arrive in Jelgava approximately 14 minutes later. The morning train from Jelgava will depart at 4:44 AM, which is five minutes later than usual, and will arrive in Riga about 18 minutes later than the usual time.
For passengers, this means it is better not to rely on saved schedules or the usual departure times before traveling.
Vivi recommends checking the current schedule before each trip, especially during the repair work period.
After the work is completed, train services should return to the normal schedule.
