The state enterprise "Latvijas Pasts" plans to spend about €1.3 million on upgrading its fleet. The company intends to acquire dozens of new minibuses, including electric models.
"Latvijas Pasts" announced plans to significantly update the vehicle fleet of its courier service.
The company intends to acquire 40 new vehicles at a total cost of approximately €1.3 million. Three open tenders have already been announced for this purpose.
The procurement includes 28 cargo minibuses, nine electric cargo minibuses, and three cargo vans with a rigid body and a lift.
According to the chairman of the board, Girts Rudzitis, the need for an upgrade is related to the large volumes of transportation. Last year alone, the company’s couriers traveled over 5.5 million kilometers delivering parcels, servicing customer centers, and the network of parcel lockers across the country.
For the residents of Latvia, this means further modernization of the delivery infrastructure, which is increasingly transitioning to more modern and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
The company notes that the new vehicles will be equipped with additional safety features. Among the mandatory requirements are rearview cameras, parking sensors, and emergency braking systems.
A special emphasis is placed on electric transport. Postal workers are already using hybrid and electric vehicles, and the current procurement will continue the modernization that began earlier. In 2025, the company acquired 21 new vehicles.
According to the Electronic Procurement System, funding of €840,000 excluding VAT is allocated for the purchase of cargo minibuses. An additional €360,000 is allocated for electric minibuses, and €120,000 for three cargo vans.
Suppliers will be able to submit applications to participate in the tenders until June 29. It is expected that the new vehicles will be available to the company by the end of 2026.
Despite a decrease in turnover last year, the company’s financial results improved. After losses the previous year, "Latvijas Pasts" ended the last year with a profit of nearly €3 million.
The company remains the largest state operator of postal services in the country, providing delivery of correspondence, parcels, and online orders throughout Latvia.
