In Latvia last year, 71.2% of all employed individuals worked in the service sector. This was reported by the LETA agency, citing the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSP).
According to CSP, among all workers in the service sector, 57.9% were employed in trade. The remaining 42.1% worked in public administration, including the police, fire service, and the mandatory social insurance system, as well as in education, healthcare, social services, culture, and the entertainment and recreation industry.
In the manufacturing sector, 21.6% of the working residents of the country were employed, while in agriculture, the figure was 6.8%.
In 2025, 44.9% of all employed individuals belonged to the category of managers and specialists. Skilled workers made up 21.6%, office, trade, and service sector employees accounted for 20.4%, and 11.8% worked in professions that do not require high qualifications.
The youngest workers on average were employees in the information and communication technology sector, with an average age of 36.6 years. The oldest specialists work in real estate management, where the average age of employees reaches 52.2 years.
Relatively young employees also work in the hotel and restaurant business, where the average age is 38.8 years, as well as in the arts, entertainment, and recreation sector - 40.4 years.
The highest average age of workers was recorded in education - 49.4 years. In healthcare and social assistance, this figure is 48.7 years, while in water supply, wastewater treatment, waste management, and environmental remediation, it is 48.6 years.
The data is prepared based on a labor force survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia to assess the economic activity of the population and the situation in the labor market.
