Saints Theognidus, Rufus, Antipater, Theostichus, Artemas, Magnus, Theodotus, Phavmasius, and Philemon lived on the shores of the Dardanelles in the city of Cizicus (this place is located in modern-day Turkey).
They were of different ages, from different regions, and held different social statuses, but they were all united by faith and a strong desire to share Christian teachings with everyone. They preached successfully, which incited the wrath of the pagans. They were captured, brought to trial, and there demanded to renounce their faith in exchange for freedom. But they refused, for which they were sentenced to death.
Under Emperor Constantine, their bodies were reburied in a temple built in their honor. From their relics, a variety of miracles were performed — people were healed from various illnesses and regained their sanity. Therefore, the saints were nicknamed the Nine Healers.
