The average disability pension in Latvia in March was less than 343 euros. Compared to February, the payment slightly decreased, according to data from the State Social Insurance Agency.
In March, the average disability pension amounted to 342.85 euros — this is 69 cents less than the previous month.
Men, on average, received slightly more than women. The average disability pension for men was 348.64 euros, while for women it was 337.15 euros.
In total, in March, 75,747 people received a disability pension in Latvia. Of these, 37,549 were men and 38,198 were women.
The amount of such payments remains significantly lower than the average salary and often below the level of actual monthly household expenses. This is particularly acute against the backdrop of the ongoing rise in prices for food, utilities, and medicines.
The issue of low social benefits regularly becomes a topic of discussion in Latvia, especially concerning people with disabilities and pensioners, for whom state support is often the main source of income.
Previously, bb.lv reported that the State Audit Office criticized the support system for disabled individuals, as the disability status in Latvia only partially achieves its goal, while the support system is fragmented and uneven.
