After the Storm, Electricity Restored to Almost All Latvians

On Monday morning, electricity supply was restored to almost all customers of the distribution network operator AS "Sadales tīkls", the company reported to LETA.

By 6:00 AM on Monday, "Sadales tīkls" had eliminated a total of 161 power grid damages caused by strong winds, including 62 damages in medium voltage networks and 99 in low voltage networks.

The greatest damage from the wind was recorded in the central and northern parts of Latvia. The damages to the power grids were mainly caused by trees and branches falling on overhead lines. A total of about 60 crews were involved in the damage restoration.

"Sadales tīkls" reminds that one should never approach power lines if trees or branches are hanging on them, or if downed wires are visible on the ground. Such dangerous situations should be reported to "Sadales tīkls" by calling the 24-hour toll-free damage reporting number 8404, or to the State Fire and Rescue Service by calling 112.

The company also notes that if electricity is lost in a house, it is recommended to first check the circuit breakers to see if they have tripped. Often, simply turning the switch back on is sufficient to restore power.

If the circuit breakers have not tripped, the cause of the power outages is likely related to the external power grid. Before submitting a request to "Sadales tīkls", customers are encouraged to check the digital outage map on the company's website, which contains information about already registered power grid damages. If a damage at a specific address has already been registered, it means that specialists are already working on its restoration, and there is no need to report it again.

"Sadales tīkls" is part of the state-owned concern "Latvenergo" and is the operator responsible for the maintenance and development of power grids in Latvia. The company ensures the operation of distribution networks, their restoration and planned development, monitoring of electricity usage, measures to reduce losses, and accounting for electricity, as well as the creation of new connections.
