On Sunday, near the seaside, wind gusts intensified to 23 meters per second, according to operational data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
In Ventspils, gusts of northwestern wind reached 23 meters per second, in Kolka - 19 meters per second, in Mersrags and Pavilosta - 17 meters per second, and in Liepaja - 16 meters per second. In Ainaži, wind gusts were observed up to 17 meters per second.
In Riga, the wind blows in gusts at speeds of 17 to 18 meters per second.
Regarding today's work of the rescuers, they mainly cleared the roadway of fallen trees. In several cases, they had to dismantle metal sheets that had come loose from buildings, and there was also a need to secure road signs that posed a danger to pedestrians and to return a banner that had come loose from the facade of a building.
